Sputnik was brought to the Sofia center by a British family that was no longer able to care for her. She didn’t stay with BSAPP very long before she was off to Luxemburg with British rescuer Gus. She was adopted almost immediately and now lives happily with her new family!

Celebrating 10 Years of BSAPP

July 8th, 2008 Jennifer Posted in 10 Years of BSAPP | No Comments »

Dear BSAPP Friends:

On Saturday May 31st BSAPP, along with both international and Bulgarian community members, came out to South Park in Sofia to celebrate 10 years of BSAPP’s work with homeless animals. The event was a first of its kind in Sofia as animal lovers united to support a common cause: responsibility and care towards Bulgaria’s animals. BSAPP stands firm in its commitment to erradicate dog and cat homelessness in Bulgaria while educating the Bulgarian public about proper treatment of animals. We invite you to enjoy some of our favorite moments from the event and hope that you will join us in ensuring the survival of BSAPP for many more years to come!

Dr. Stoyanov thanks the crowd for all of its support and dedication to the organization.

BSAPP set up an adoption zone at the party where guests could interact with some of the animals that are waiting for a loving home. Adoption of some of Bulgaria’s neediest animals is one of BSAPP’s primary areas of work.

BSAPP wanted to make sure the public understood its commitment to cats as well by bringing along kittens that are looking for a home.

BSAPP also had the support of two famous Bulgarian celebrities. Pictured here is famous actress and animal rights supporter Ana Pencheva addressing the crowd….

and famous singer Milena Slavova also came out to support the event. Ms. Slavova currently has two rescued dogs, one of which is a special needs dog.

The festivities included many “animal friendly” events including having your portrait drawn with your pet.

BSAPP also held an adopted street dog/shelter dog contest….

in which owners could win goodies for their four-legged friends!

Kids enjoyed painting with water colors…

and having their faces painted too!

BSAPP sees educating the public about the suffering of animals as a first step toward teaching compassion.

The teaching of compassion starts when a child is young….

a time when children develop their feelings about animals and can be taught by parents, teachers and the community that animals are worth protecting.

Adults who are compassionate towards animals can be instruments in teaching others.

By the end of the party we were all exhausted but very happy that two our our dogs, Miles and Sara (now named Sofie) had been adopted into loving homes!

Miles - Exhausted but finally home!

June 18th, 2008 Jennifer Posted in Success Stories | No Comments »

The odds were really against Miles surviving his first few weeks of life as he was found in a box with 9 other puppies in South Park who had been sterilized too young. Six of them died and 2 were adopted through BSAPP (see Mila’s success story). Miles is one lucky guy!

BSAPP’s 10th Anniversary Celebration- A Big Success!

June 6th, 2008 Jennifer Posted in BSAPP News | No Comments »

Dear BSAPP Friends:

BSAPP would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping make our 10th anniversary celebration on Saturday May 31st, 2008 a big success! The event was attended by two famous Bulgarian women and animal lovers, actress Ana Pencheva and singer Milena Slavova. We thank both of these women for their support! Also, sales and donations combined, we received 726.30 leva! We have also attracted the attention of the Bulgarian public and several international volunteers who will be joining our team! I think everyone who attended would agree that the contests that took place - Street Dog/Shelter Dog Hero Contest and Dog/Owner Look Alike Contest - were fun and spirited. Congratulations to the winners of our doggie gift baskets! Our beautiful pup Miles was adopted by Paromita Sanatani, co-founder and editor of the Sofia Insider’s Guide, Reagle Beagle was adopted by a local journalist and and Sara is currently being fostered by a loving and caring family. Please visit the link below to view photos from the event!
